Poppy braid – a Sunday braided bread in a different way!
I’m sure you are already busy with all the preparations for the New Year’s Eve menu. That’s why today there is not much text, but only a recipe for a special braided bread for the New Year’s Brunch. It’s a little sweeter than the usual one, with a fine nutty aroma and a little more texture.
I wish you a happy new year and hope to continue to keep you company with my blog.
Braided bread with poppy seeds
Ingredients:
- 500 g flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 tbsp poppy seeds
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 20 g yeast: equivalent to 1 packet of dry yeast or ½ fresh yeast cube
- 75 g butter
- Approx. 3 dl milk
Preparation:
Put the flour, salt, poppy seeds, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Heat milk and butter together in a pan until the butter is melted, then add the milk and butter to the remaining ingredients and mix/knead everything together to a smooth dough. Leave to rise for about an hour. The dough should double its size. Then either form it into a round loaf of bread or into a braid.
Brush with milk or egg to obtain a glossy surface.
Put in the cold oven and bake at 180°C for about 50 minutes. The bread is fully baked when it sounds “hollow” when you knock on it.
Good New Year’s Brunch!
